COURSE OVERVIEW
The presentation, Guiding the Conversation with Motivational Interviewing: Focus on Change Talk and Sustain Talk, will begin with definitions of change talk and sustain talk.
There will be a discussion about appropriate target behaviors. An overview of the research on change talk will be provided. Attendees will learn concrete strategies for eliciting change talk and will practice identifying change talk.
This presentation is considered intermediate and is designed for individuals who have some prior knowledge of motivational interviewing and an understanding of motivational interviewing spirit.

Dr. Josephine DeMarce is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who resides in Mooresville, North Carolina. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biopsychology from Oberlin College in 1999 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2006. She has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2012 and has been employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs since 2005. Dr. DeMarce provides in-person and online training in Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy for substance use disorders. She enjoys both research and program evaluation activities and is particularly interested in evaluating dissemination and implementation efforts.
