COURSE OVERVIEW

Sexual harassment in the workplace has been a much-discussed topic over the past few years with the #MeToo movement and the media covering the many celebrities, politicians, and business leaders who have been accused. In an effort to support clients who have been the victims of sexual harassment, attendees of this presentation will learn the definition of sexual harassment, the various types, and legal factors. Learn the laws in place that protect victims and how to empower clients who are experiencing harassment to advocate for themselves. Participants will learn treatment implications and approaches for addressing trauma and other symptomatology related to harassment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the definition of sexual harassment, the various types, and legal factors. 
  • Recognize the verbal, non-verbal, physical, and digital forms of sexual harassment.
  • Learn the laws in place that protect victims and how to empower clients who are experiencing harassment to speak up, document, and file a report.
  • Receive resources and referrals to assist clients dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • Identify treatment implications and approaches for addressing trauma and other symptomatology related to harassment.

Joyce Marter has been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for over twenty years and is an expert in mindfulness, self-esteem, career, and the psychology of money. She is the Founder of Urban Balance, an insurance-friendly, counseling practice with over 175 therapists working from nearly twenty locations in six states.

Marter is a leader in the profession and has served as President of the Illinois Counseling Association, two terms as President of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association, and Chair of the Midwest Region of the American Counseling Association. She is Adjunct Faculty at The Family Institute at Northwestern University.

As a member of the National Speakers Association, Joyce is a national keynote speaker and corporate trainer. She is routinely consulted as a mental health expert in the media and has been featured in such outlets as The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, CNN, Real Simple Magazine, and MTV.

Her book, The Financial Mindset Fix: A Mental Fitness Program for an Abundant Life will be published by Sounds True in July.
