When facilitated with thoughtful intention and attention, groups of any size and duration are a powerful space for learning, connecting and increased self-awareness of participants. Yet groups are not easy to facilitate well! Effective group facilitation requires skill and support.
In this training, Shira Samiroff, LCSW, will work on deepening skills of workshop planning and facilitation including
creating a safe space, navigating group dynamics, understanding and tending to issues of
oppression and power and having self-awareness as a practitioner.
- Discuss the stages of group development and participants’ needs at each stage.
- Explain how to foster safety, mutual support and empowerment of participants in a group.
- Give practical exercises to integrate understanding of group dynamics and tools and purposeful activities for group facilitation.
