When facilitated with thoughtful intention and attention, groups of any size and duration are a powerful space for learning, connecting, and increasing the self-awareness of participants. Yet groups are not easy to facilitate well! Effective group facilitation requires skill and support.
In this training, we will work on deepening group planning and facilitation skills, including creating a safe space, navigating group dynamics, understanding and tending to issues of oppression and power, and having self-awareness as a practitioner.
Shira Sameroff, LCSW, presents an in-depth understanding and practical tools and strategies that you can use in group facilitation.
- Discuss the stages of group development and participants’ needs at each stage.
- Explain how to foster safety, mutual support, and empowerment of participants in a group.
- Give practical exercises to integrate an understanding of group dynamics and tools and purposeful activities for group facilitation.
