COURSE EVALUATION
This interactive live training will provide an overview of the prevalence of substance abuse in intimate partner relationships. We will focus on the correlation between substance abuse and IPV. Upon completion of this module, clinicians will be more aware of the factors associated with IPV and substance abuse. This module will include strategies to reinforce key messages which recognize diverse cultural beliefs and community norms. It will also include how strategies are coordinated with other prevention efforts such as alcohol and other substance abuse to avoid the implication that victims of IPV are to blame when they are victimized. This module will educate participants on the risk factors associated with intimate partner violence and the use of alcohol and other drugs. This module will also address the dynamics of the intimate partner relationship and the relevance of family histories of violence and substance abuse.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Identify the warning signs of substance abuse in domestic violence relationships.
- Discuss the risk factors that contribute to substance abuse and domestic violence in a relationship.
- Recognize the connection between substance abuse and intimate partner violence and take the steps necessary to intervene safely and appropriately to report if abuse or assault are suspected.
