COURSE OVERVIEW

This course will aim to increase clinical awareness of the diagnostic criteria associated with DSM-V eating disorders. Principals of DBT will be discussed and clinical application of DBT skills will be introduced for the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, and Bulimia Nervosa. Current research in the field of DBT and the treatment of eating disorders will be reviewed.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Show an increased understanding of the diagnosis of Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, and Bulimia Nervosa.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the core principals of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
  • Discuss the clinical resources for the treatment of eating disorders using DBT principles
  • Develop an increased understanding of current research as it relates to DBT and the treatment of eating disorders.
Target Audience: Psychologists, Social Workers, Addiction Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors, & LMFT
Content level: Beginner to intermediate

Aimee Foster is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) and the Laramie County Clinic Director for Peak Wellness Center in Wyoming. She relocated to Cheyenne 18 months ago from Southern California and has been enjoying the cool weather and outdoor activities that Wyoming offers. In addition to her role with Peak, Aimee is a professor of graduate psychology with Purdue University online and has experience teaching in different colleges since 2015. Dr. Foster’s areas of interest and specialty include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the treatment of eating disorders, and Family Systems Psychology. She is a member of the American Psychological Association since 2009, Wyoming Psychological Association and National Register of Health Service Psychologist.
