Overview:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapeutic model that supports clients in increasing psychological flexibility—the ability to take effective action aligned with values while navigating challenging thoughts and emotions. This 3-hour training provides an accessible introduction to ACT’s theoretical foundations and practical applications for early-career clinicians and those new to the model.
Led by Diana Garcia, LMHC, the course offers a structured overview of ACT’s six core processes and their relevance in addressing clinical issues such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Participants will learn to conceptualize psychological challenges through a contextual behavioral science lens and incorporate ACT principles into assessment, case formulation, and intervention.
Objectives:
Define the underlying aim of ACT.
Describe how ACT conceptualizes problems presented by clients.
Explain the role of functional contextualism within the ACT model.
Identify the six core processes of ACT.
This recorded webinar includes lecture, case examples, and experiential exercises to introduce and apply ACT principles in clinical practice.
Limitations:
While ACT is supported by growing research, its effectiveness may vary depending on client factors, presenting issues, and clinician experience. Some areas still require further empirical study. Clinicians should apply ACT flexibly and in combination with other appropriate interventions.
Commercial Disclosure:
Diana Garcia receives an royalties for this training from E Care Behavioral Health Institute. She is the author of the book titled Negative Thoughts Happen, which explores ACT concepts. This book is not required for participation and will not be promoted during the webinar. She has no other relevant financial relationships to disclose.
