Overview:
It can be overwhelming for some clinicians to know where to start in giving support to a client who is holding onto the past and experiencing intense pain and guilt in their grief. Having a conceptualization of diverse pain theories helps provide a framework for clinicians to better understand and support clients who are experiencing pain and in their grief.Â
Attendees will learn many different approaches to use to better support a client who is experiencing guilt. We’ll explore different aspects of saying goodbye, including reasons a client will hold tightly to their life before the loss, diverse goodbye rituals and various continuing bond activities. “Holiday Grief” is an experience that can be most challenging for many clients. This training will extend to areas for clinicians to be mindful of when supporting a clients grieving during the holidays, including signs, triggers, setting boundaries, and interventions related to Holiday Grief. After this training, Clinicians will be able to better equipped to support grieving clients who are struggling with the reality of their loss and Holiday Grief.
Objectives:
- Implement 3–4 concepts to address pain and guilt in order to better support clients experiencing these emotions in their grief.
- Recall 2-3 effective concepts and strategies to help clients process their connection to their loss.
- Apply 3-4 effective interventions to help clients navigate their Holiday Grief.
Tiffani Dilworth is the author of 11 Tools to Help Manage the Aftermath of Trauma and Types of Grief. These works may be referenced during the course to support the educational content. Tiffani Dilworth
Tiffani Dilworth, LPC, GCGS, is a psychotherapist and author with over a decade of experience specializing in PTSD, grief, and sexual trauma. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Master's in Community Counseling from Oklahoma State University. Dilworth is a Fellow in Thanatology and a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist, recognized for her expertise in the field. Dilworth is passionate about sharing her knowledge and has worked with organizations, schools, universities, and corporations across the US to bring awareness to the grieving process and teach people how to live alongside their grief. She is an affiliate of PsychExperts & Associates, Inc, located in Baltimore, MD, and runs a private practice where she incorporates evidence-based and innovative treatment techniques into her work. In addition to her clinical work, Dilworth is an author and host of Managing My Grief Podcast. Her books, 11 Tools to Help Manage the Aftermath of Trauma and Types of Grief, draw on her clinical experience and provide readers with practical strategies for managing grief and trauma. Dilworth is a sought-after speaker on topics related to grief, PTSD, and sexual assault and is dedicated to helping individuals and communities heal and grow.
