Overview:
Anxiety is one of the most common and complex challenges clinicians encounter in practice. Clients present with persistent worry, emotional overwhelm, avoidance, and difficulty regulating their internal experiences — yet many continue to struggle despite treatment. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of anxiety is essential for developing effective, targeted interventions that lead to meaningful change.
This 6-hour training provides a comprehensive, clinically applicable framework for understanding the anatomy of anxiety — including the cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physiological processes that drive and maintain anxious patterns. Examine how anxiety manifests across presentations, including generalized anxiety, panic, and high-functioning anxiety, and how these patterns interfere with daily functioning and therapeutic progress. Learn to identify the core drivers of anxiety, including avoidance cycles, cognitive distortions, and nervous system activation, while distinguishing between adaptive and maladaptive responses.
Clinicians will be introduced to evidence-informed interventions drawn from cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance-based approaches, and regulation strategies — with emphasis on practical application: how to interrupt avoidance, support emotional regulation, and help clients develop more flexible and adaptive responses to anxiety.
Designed for licensed mental health professionals who want clear, actionable tools to improve outcomes with clients experiencing anxiety-related challenges.
Objectives:
- Define at least four key components of the anxiety response, including cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physiological processes.
- Explain how anxiety is maintained through avoidance, reinforcement patterns, and maladaptive coping strategies.
- Differentiate between common anxiety presentations, including generalized anxiety, panic symptoms, and high-functioning anxiety.
- Identify at least two core patterns and maintenance factors that contribute to persistent or treatment-resistant anxiety.
- Apply at least one evidence-informed intervention to reduce avoidance and support adaptive coping responses.
- Utilize cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based strategies to improve emotional regulation and increase psychological flexibility in clients with anxiety.

This 6-hour training provides a clinical framework for understanding and treating anxiety, including its cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physiological components, common presentations, and evidence-informed intervention strategies drawn from cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based approaches. Content is intended for licensed mental health professionals and is designed to enhance clinical skill within their existing scope of practice. This training does not substitute for formal supervision, consultation, or specialty training when working with complex, high-risk, or treatment-resistant presentations. Participants are responsible for applying course content in accordance with their professional license, jurisdictional regulations, and applicable ethical standards, and for seeking additional supervision or consultation as clinically indicated. This training does not confer specialty certification or an independent credential.
