Overview:
We will begin by applying our current, personal ethical discernment to several short clinical case vignettes, paying particular attention to the ethical priorities we tend to privilege. Next, we review the most significant ethical theories and approaches that have stood the test of time, and how they might lend insight to the clinical situations. And finally, we will attempt to construct a more comprehensive, conscious approach and process to more effectively day-to-day ethical dilemmas.
Objectives:
- Discuss the clinical vignettes to consider how we personally prefer to approach ethical situations.
- Explain the overview of the three general theories and schools of ethical theory.
- Formulate an integrated approach to help guide our ethical decision-making, and reconsider any impacts on our previous ethical dilemmas.
- Establish a process or checklist to carry us through challenging ethical clinical situations.
