Tuesday, December 9th
1:00 PM ET – 4:15 PM ET
Overview:
Much has changed in recent years in the field of compulsive and addictive sexual behaviors. A new diagnostic category has been developed in the ICD-11, and new research has emerged regarding prevalence, etiology, and evidence-based treatments.
Dr. Carnes will discuss the current state of the field and share clinical insights regarding effective strategies for working with this population. Additionally, an overview of key approaches to family therapy will be provided.
Objectives:
- Describe new research on the diagnosis of sexually compulsive behavior.
Explain the role of trauma, neurobiology, and attachment disruption as etiological factors in the development of compulsive sexual behavior.
Identify common comorbidities and some evidence-based treatment strategies.
Note: Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) is included as a diagnostic category in the World Health Organization’s ICD-11, but as of the moment, it is not recognized as a distinct diagnosis in the DSM-5. This training will review current ICD-11 criteria, the latest research, and clinical implications for assessment and treatment. Clinicians are encouraged to consider both ICD and DSM frameworks, apply evidence-based practices, and use clinical judgment when diagnosing and treating compulsive sexual behaviors.
