Overview:
Led by Stacy Ruse, LPC, RYT, this 3-hour workshop provides a comprehensive and results-driven overview of Internal Family Systems Therapy, a highly effective and non-pathologizing modality used widely in various contexts today.
When combined, Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems Therapy empower clinicians with a complete toolkit for resolving the internal conflicts and heightened awareness states that contribute to depression, anxiety, and several other concerns” for more precise language. This course blends these two mindful approaches to help you teach patients vital self-regulation skills while fostering a sense of resilience.
You will learn how to apply the core tenets of Polyvagal theory with the 5 P’s of Internal Family Systems therapy to promote self-mastery for your patients, allowing them to manage their internal parts (using IFS therapy’s 6 F’s) and remain calm and content in a wide range of situations. The material is delivered within a culturally inclusive and competent framework, ensuring that you can teach these regulation techniques effectively to a diverse range of patients in varied contexts.
Objectives:
- Explore the objectives, methods, and motivations behind Polyvagal-Informed Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy approaches.
- Define and practically apply self-energy in your therapeutic approach as a tool to enhance healing and nervous system regulation.
- Utilize the 5 P’s and 6 F’s of the IFS model to support self-directed nervous system regulation and improved client connection.
Scope and Limitations
This course offers an integrative overview of Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and Polyvagal Theory, focusing on their combined use to support nervous system regulation and trauma-informed care. It is designed for licensed mental health professionals and assumes prior knowledge of clinical practice. This course does not provide certification in IFS or Polyvagal Theory, nor is it a substitute for formal training in either model. All concepts should be applied within the participant’s professional scope of practice and in accordance with relevant licensing regulations.
