Overview:
As public interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy continues to grow, mental health professionals with a well-informed understanding of psychedelic agents are better equipped to serve clients who use them. This course delivers a comprehensive overview of the research, clinical applications, and legal considerations surrounding psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine, and ayahuasca. The webinar includes guidance on screening protocols, harm reduction strategies, and post-experience integration.
Note: This webinar does not provide instruction in the direct provision of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, which remains limited to research settings and specific state-approved programs. Instead, participants will learn how to ethically support clients who are considering or have used psychedelics, through risk assessment, psychoeducation, safety planning, and integration: while upholding legal and professional boundaries.
Objectives:
- Identify risks and contraindications associated with the four major psychedelics (psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine, and ayahuasca) and how to properly screen for them
- Discuss three evidence-based methods for acknowledging, processing, and applying insights associated with psychedelic experiences.
- Explain the legal and ethical landscape surrounding psychedelic-assisted therapy and apply best practices to several common scenarios.Â
