Overview:

What is recovery and what is the best way to achieve it? By looking at the past and present modalities of substance abuse treatment we will explore their effectiveness of helping people recover. 

We will review the various self-help groups that are available to our patients and look at new and innovative recovery treatment models that may change the way treat substance use disorders in the future. 

Objectives:

  • Review the history of substance use treatment and recovery models.
  • Discuss and compare the various self-help resources for substance abuse recovery. 
  • Review evidenced base practices and approaches.
  • Explore alternative recovery programs nationally and internationally.

    Heather Connors

    Heather Connors LCAS, MAC is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist in North Carolina and has the Master Addiction Counselor accreditation from NAADAC. She currently works for the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as a substance abuse consultant for the UNC Medical Center and the UNC Department of Psychiatry. She earned a bachelors in Women’s Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, Seattle. She has a certification in Non-Profit Management from the University of Washington, Seattle and is an ARISE trained interventionist. Heather has worked extensively with pregnant and parenting women in the inpatient, outpatient and detoxification levels of care. She has been working with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for 13 years and most recently trained primary care providers on how to integrate MAT into their clinics. She has specific interest in Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change.

Professional Counselors — The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)

Addiction Professionals — NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC)

E Care Behavioral Health Institute is officially on file with NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) as an Approved Education Provider. They are formally known as NAADAC Provider #139138. Please note that E care Behavioral Health Institute is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.

Social Workers — Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

E Care Behavioral Health Institute, #1706, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. E Care Behavioral Health Institute maintains responsibility for this course.   ACE provider approval period: 06-03-2020 – 06-03-2026. 

CE Broker

CE Broker is a continuing education tracking system in which licensees track their compliance and report their completed CE hours credit (CE Broker Tracking #50-33336)
