Overview:
Working with individuals diagnosed with personality disorders presents unique clinical challenges, often marked by therapy-interfering behaviors, emotional intensity, and complex interpersonal dynamics. This 3-hour webinar offers a practical framework for recognizing and treating clients with Narcissistic, Borderline, and Antisocial Personality Disorders.
Participants will examine how personality traits manifest in therapy, including manipulation, perfectionism, emotional reactivity, and difficulties with empathy and boundaries. The course includes guidance for managing strong countertransference reactions and establishing effective therapeutic boundaries to support both client progress and clinician well-being.
The course integrates evidence-based interventions—including Schema Therapy, Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, CBT, IPT, and DBT—using clinical examples to support treatment planning and application. Clinicians will gain tools for stabilizing high-risk behaviors, improving client insight, and facilitating behavioral and emotional regulation.
Objectives:
- Differentiate clinical presentations of antisocial, narcissistic, and borderline personality disorders..
- Apply diagnostic criteria and case formulation strategies to guide intervention planning for Cluster B disorders.
- Identify effective treatments for antisocial, narcissistic, and borderline personality disorders.
- Identify and manage therapy-interfering behaviors unique to each disorder to improve client engagement and clinical outcomes.
- Incorporate techniques aimed at reducing explosive emotions, self-harm tendencies, and cravings for chaos into impactful treatment approaches.
This recorded webinar combines lecture, clinical examples, and structured treatment tools to guide diagnosis, case formulation, and intervention planning for personality disorders.
Limitations:
Although evidence-based treatments exist, outcomes can vary depending on client factors, treatment engagement, and contextual challenges. Diagnostic complexity and stigma may also affect therapeutic progress. Clinicians are encouraged to apply interventions flexibly and with clinical sensitivity.
