Overview:
Join Corey Pitts, MA, LCMHC, LCAS in an informative/collaborative webinar in efforts to gain insight in reducing jargon surrounding the use of diagnosis and diagnostic criteria within the realm of substance use diagnosing! Portions of DSM 5 will be unpacked, specifically, consideration and discussion of CNS Depressants, CNS Stimulants, Perception Distorting Drugs, Narcotics, as well as Nicotine.Â
This discussion will provide insight into the categories of a substance use disorder, differentiating between use disorder, abuse, and dependence (among other areas), as well as ways in which to apply such knowledge through the use of case conceptualizations.
Objectives:
- Dispel jargon surrounding diagnostic criteria associated with substance use disorder diagnostic criteria, presenting symptoms, etc.
- Discuss the proper assessment techniques in conjunction with the substance use disorder criterion.
- Collaborate surrounding application, viewing certain case studies to encapsulate typology.Â

"Corey Pitts, a mental health therapist and certified clinical supervisor working in private practice in Charlotte, NC. He is also an Adjunct Instructor with the Division of Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at the UNC School of Medicine. Corey has been a therapist for 9 years. He specializes in the treatment and management of co-occurring disorders such as trauma, anxiety/depression, substance use, as well as aspects of various mood and personality disorders. He uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, as well as Solution Therapy approaches. He has worked in a wide array of treatment settings including community outreach, Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder, as well as Intensive Outpatient within hospital settings."
