Overview:
When communication breaks down between two people, a lack of assertiveness on one side is very often to blame. Because of the applicability and importance of this skill, psychotherapists often find themselves training assertive communication, yet are rarely trained directly on it themselves.
Based on proven concepts from The Assertiveness Workbook, this course was engineered to empower you, the therapist, with the tools you need to instill healthy, assertive communication skills in each patient. The course uses real-life scenarios to teach how and when to enforce clear boundaries in order to improve communication and maintain healthy relationships as a result.
By the conclusion of this course, you will know how to identify the beliefs and behaviors that prevent your clients from asserting themselves, along with key skills (such as saying no and providing constructive feedback, etc.) that will enhance their interpersonal communication in meaningful and productive ways.
Objectives:
- Train clients to recognize and apply the four major communication styles.
- Identify and resolve behaviors and beliefs preventing assertive communication.
- Apply course concepts to real-life scenarios, training clients to use assertive communication skills (e.g., saying no, offering their own opinions) in various realistic situations.
- Train clients to apply key exercises, such as role reversal, modeling, and shaping, to improve their communication skills.
