Overview:
Learn Motivational Interviewing directly from co-founder Dr. Stephen Rollnick! Discover how MI can enhance both your clinical impact and your well-being as a provider.
Why is meaningful behavior change so difficult? What actually works to motivate lasting transformation? After four decades of research, Motivational Interviewing (MI) has emerged as one of the most effective, evidence-based approaches for guiding clients toward change. This engaging training explores the “why” behind behavioral resistance and offers practical, compassionate tools you can use immediately in your clinical practice.
Whether you’re supporting clients in making lifestyle shifts, adhering to treatment plans, or navigating ambivalence about critical decisions such as taking medication or vaccines, MI equips you with a collaborative method that fosters trust, autonomy, and real progress. You’ll learn how to move beyond simply giving advice and instead evoke your client’s own motivations for change.
Objectives:
- Define the core principles and spirit of Motivational Interviewing (MI), including collaboration, evocation, and autonomy support.
- Demonstrate at least three MI-consistent communication techniques that enhance client motivation for behavior change.
- Apply MI strategies to common clinical scenarios to reduce resistance and increase client engagement in treatment planning.
