Overview:
Over two decades the idea of trauma-informed services grew to define an approach to mental health and substance use disorder treatment that recognizes the prevalence and impact of adverse experiences in client and workforce groups.
However, clinical supervisors often lack the training to support supervisees activated by their clients& experiences. In this session, participants will apply a trauma-informed approach to clinical supervision.
Objectives:
- Discuss the prevalence of psychological trauma in the behavioral health workforce.
- Recognize the impact of the 4 Rs on clients and service providers.
- Take away three tools for improving supervisees & responses to emotional hijacking.
- Determine places to implement trauma-informed practices into daily clinical supervision
interactions.

Robert Cox
Robert M. Cox, EdD, LCMHC, LCAS, CCS, CCMHC, NCC, ACS, is an accomplished and dedicated assistant professor in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, currently working at Pfeiffer University. His wide-ranging experience and expertise in counseling, consulting, training, and supervision have made him a valuable resource for the university counseling and wellness center. Dr. Cox's professional interests revolve around the provision of effective and compassionate mental health services to diverse communities. He has a special focus on crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, substance-affected families, and justice-affected systems. He also has a keen interest in the role of counselors in community organizing, recognizing the need for counselors to engage with and support underserved and underrepresented communities. Dr. Cox is an active contributor to the field of counseling and mental health services. He has published several research articles and book chapters on various aspects of counseling, supervision, and mental health services. He has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences, earning recognition and appreciation for his contributions to the field. As a 2013 NBCC Minority Scholars Fellow, Dr. Cox has a deep commitment to giving back to the community. He has been involved in several initiatives and projects aimed at promoting mental health awareness and improving access to mental health services for underserved populations. He has served on various committees and task forces at the local and national levels, advocating for policies that support mental health and well-being for all.

Social Workers — Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
E Care Behavioral Health Institute, #1706, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.
