Overview:
Chronic pain is a complex condition that often involves both physical and psychological suffering. This training focuses on the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals cope with the emotional and behavioral challenges associated with chronic pain.
Participants will learn how to identify pain-related behaviors, address patterns of avoidance, and work with emotional experiences such as anxiety, depression, and fear through an ACT framework. The course will explore key ACT processes—including psychological flexibility, cognitive defusion, acceptance, values clarification, and committed action—to support more adaptive functioning.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be equipped with evidence-based tools and strategies for implementing ACT in both individual and group settings to improve the quality of life for clients experiencing chronic pain. This recorded webinar is delivered through lecture-based instruction and includes clinical case examples, and ACT-specific interventions.
Objectives:
- Review the scholarly literature on the evidence of ACT for Chronic Pain
- Discuss how to conceptualize pain-related dysfunction from an ACT perspective
- Apply Knowledge of the above concepts to inform both individual and group interventions.
Limitations:
While ACT is evidence-based for chronic pain, it may not be effective for all clients. Outcomes can vary based on individual factors such as readiness, comorbidities, and treatment context. Clinicians should tailor interventions and consider complementary approaches as needed.
