Overview:
Across the helping professions, we have arrived at a point where it is possible to create statements of best practices in supervision that are based on available empirical research; credentialing, ethical, and legal guidelines; and consensus opinion. Best Practices in Clinical Supervision provides useful guidelines for effective, ethical, competent, and accountable supervision practice in the following areas: Initiating Supervision, Goal Setting, Giving Feedback, Conducting Supervision, The Supervisory Relationship, Diversity and Advocacy Considerations, Ethical Considerations, Documentation, Evaluation, Supervision Format, The Supervisor- Competencies and Characteristics, and Supervisor Preparation.
This webinar will discuss how participants can best incorporate these into practice. Barriers to implementing best practices will be presented as well as ideas to increase the utilization of them by both supervisions and clinicians. The best-practice guide to clinical supervision, an approach used across psychotherapy practices. summaries the best available clinical evidence relating to clinical supervision and relates this information to key principles with a strong applied focus, drawing out practice guidelines and implications.
The webinar aims to motivate mental health professionals to practice supervision with greater enthusiasm and proficiency. It is important to note that these are best practices rather than minimally acceptable practices. The best practice guidelines are intended to support supervisors in their work. They are intended to be relevant and practical and are offered to augment the judgment of supervisors as they strive to do the following: (a) offer ethical and legal protection of the rights of supervisors, supervisees, and clients; and (b) meet the professional development needs of supervisees while protecting client welfare.

- Explain the barriers to implementing EBPs.

Cheryl Meola, Ph.D, LCMHC, NCC
Cheryl Meola is an experienced therapist and expert in Equine Assisted Therapy. Her doctoral research at East Carolina University's Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Counseling focused on the use of equine therapy to help clinical populations, and she continues to promote equine-assisted wellness and stress reduction for individuals, such as helping professionals, veterans, and parents. Dr. Meola operates a private practice in Greenville, NC, where she offers therapy and wellness counseling with the assistance of her talented equine co-therapists. She specializes in coaching parents whose children have been diagnosed with mental health issues and also works with counselors to promote self-growth and awareness. Dr. Meola provides supervision for those pursuing licensure and is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest research and trends in her field. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with others and is a sought-after speaker at industry events. She also likes reading and writing about new ways to incorporate equine therapy into her practice to provide innovative and effective treatments for her clients.
