Overview:

Borderline Personality Disorder can feel overwhelming for even experienced clinicians, especially when sessions become unpredictable or emotionally intense. This training brings clarity and confidence to your work with this population — walking you through how our understanding of BPD has evolved over time and how current models explain the patterns you see in practice. Explore the core features that drive crises, emotional instability, splitting, and ruptures in the therapeutic relationship, while gaining insight into the underlying issues that must be addressed for therapy to be effective.

Beyond understanding the condition, this training focuses on what actually works in the room. Learn practical, evidence-informed interventions to manage chaos, repair therapeutic ruptures, and reduce escalation across different clinical settings. The training introduces four structured management approaches along with therapeutic strategies that support long-term improvement in functioning. By the end, you will feel more grounded in your approach and better equipped to respond to the challenges that arise when treating individuals with BPD.

Designed for licensed mental health professionals who want practical, evidence-informed tools to work more effectively and confidently with BPD clients.

Objectives:

  1. Describe current models for understanding Borderline Personality Disorder.
  2. Describe the elements of Borderline Personality Disorder that lead to crises, chaos, splitting, and risk of therapeutic ruptures.
  3. Explain at least two fundamental aspects of Borderline Personality Disorder that must be addressed in order for therapy to be successful.
  4. Describe at least one intervention designed to address the chaos, crises, splitting, and therapeutic ruptures seen in individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder.
  5. Explain how to implement at least one of four different management approaches to diminish escalations with individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder.
  6. Explain how to implement at least two therapeutic strategies that have been shown to produce an overall improvement in functioning in individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder.
