Clinical Women’s Mental Health Masterclass: Hormonal Transitions, Mood & Intervention Across the Lifespan (RV)

Overview:

Women’s mental health offers one of the greatest opportunities to improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities — yet most clinical training overlooks the hormonal layer that drives and complicates mood across a woman’s lifespan. From puberty and the reproductive years through pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause, hormonal shifts have profound effects on psychological health and functioning that clinicians are rarely equipped to recognize or address.

This 6-hour training enhances clinicians’ understanding of women’s mental health across the lifespan, with a focus on current research related to hormonal transitions and their effects on mood, emotional regulation, and mental health. Learn to recognize common symptoms related to peripartum and menopausal mood changes, differentiate hormone-driven mood changes from primary mental health disorders, and explore the broader societal context that influences women’s health. Clinical case illustrations bring to life how women present in psychotherapy during pregnancy and midlife transitions.

Practical, accessible interventions are presented throughout — including mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral strategies, DBT skills, CBT-I sleep strategies, nervous system regulation techniques, and gut-brain axis approaches. Special considerations include culturally responsive care, affirming care for LGBTQIA+ women, and the impact of social pressures including career stress, body image, and negative self-perception. Clinicians will leave equipped to develop personalized self-care toolkits and deliver more nuanced, effective care to women navigating complex hormonal and mental health challenges.

Designed for licensed mental health professionals who want a comprehensive, clinically grounded framework for treating women’s mental health across the lifespan.

Objectives:

  1. Identify problematic symptoms associated with peripartum/postpartum anxiety and depression, perimenopause, and menopause.
  2. Describe the impact of hormonal changes on mood from the peripartum period through menopause
  3. Differentiate between hormone-driven mood changes and primary mental health disorders using practical assessment tools.
  4. Utilize mindfulness and behavioral strategies to address the unique challenges women face at the intersection of hormonal and mental health changes.
  5. Name one  mindfulness and behavioral intervention to enhance emotional regulation.
