Course Description
This 48-hour Internal Family Systems (IFS) Trauma Certificate Training provides mental health professionals with an in-depth, trauma-informed framework for assessing and treating both simple and complex trauma. Grounded in contemporary neuroscience, attachment theory, and the Internal Family Systems model, the program integrates an understanding of how trauma impacts the nervous system, memory, identity, and relational functioning across the lifespan.
Participants will examine the neurobiology of trauma, including hyper-arousal, hypo-arousal, dissociation, and the adaptive functions of trauma-related symptoms. The training addresses a wide range of trauma presentations, including acute stress disorder, PTSD, complex PTSD, developmental and attachment trauma, pre-verbal trauma, transgenerational and systemic trauma, and the influence of intersectionality and global stressors. Special emphasis is placed on resilience, compassion, post-traumatic growth, and the ethical use of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
The course offers comprehensive instruction in the IFS model, including the concepts of parts, Self and Self-energy; protectors and exiles; the six Fs; and the steps of healing. Participants will develop competence in trauma-sensitive assessment, parts mapping, stabilization, and working with dissociative systems. Clinical practice hours are embedded throughout the training and include supervised application of IFS interventions, with a required focus on healing wounded parts.
Throughout the program, clinicians will explore therapist self-awareness, boundaries, cultural humility, and strategies for managing vicarious trauma and activated therapist parts. By the conclusion of the training, participants will be equipped to apply IFS in an integrative, ethical, and culturally responsive manner across a broad range of trauma-related clinical presentations, supporting deep and sustained healing in their clients.
