Overview:
Although ADHD was historically viewed as a childhood disorder, current evidence confirms its persistence into adulthood. Adult ADHD affects approximately 7% of the population and is linked to higher risks of suicide, chronic disease, and reduced quality of life—yet it often remains underdiagnosed due to outdated beliefs, diagnostic challenges, and implicit bias.
This training addresses the complexities of adult ADHD diagnosis and treatment, including its differentiation from anxiety and depression, the role of executive function deficits, and the impact of cultural and gender biases. Clinicians will learn to recognize diverse presentations of ADHD and consider individualized strategies for assessment and care.
Led by Kelly Pickens, APNP, ADHD-CCSP, this course presents research-backed insights and practical tools for improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.Â
Objectives:
- Identify how implicit bias affects ADHD diagnosis and develop strategies to reduce diagnostic disparities.
- Explain the prevalence, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation of adult ADHD.
- Analyze executive function deficits in ADHD and evaluate their impact on treatment planning.
- Apply evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies for diagnosing and managing adult ADHD.
Limitations:
This course may include interventions beyond some professionals’ scope of practice. Participants are responsible for ensuring their use aligns with state laws, licensure regulations, and ethical guidelines. When in doubt, consult your licensing board or professional organization
