Overview:
In today’s world, the reverberations of trauma are more widespread than ever. As mental health professionals, understanding the impact of trauma is paramount. Without this understanding, we risk missing the signs and symptoms that silently shape the lives of our clients. This course illuminates the path to trauma-informed care by delving into the four core principles of SAMHSA’s approach:
- Realization of the widespread impact of trauma and paths to recovery;
- Recognition of the signs and symptoms associated with trauma exposure;
- Response to trauma through policies and procedures and
- Adoption of practices to resist the risk of re-traumatization for clients and therapists alike.
In this presentation, you will also have the opportunity to reflect on trauma-informed care self-practices and the importance of the client-therapist relationship in facilitating a trauma-informed care approach.
Objectives:
- Conduct a trauma-informed assessment.
- Apply a trauma-informed case conceptualization.
- Integrate trauma-informed skills meaningfully into clinical practice
- Adopt culturally humble practices with a trauma-informed lens
- Practice strategies to mitigate secondary trauma exposure
Course materials are only available to enrolled students.
