Overview:
Complex trauma rooted in adverse childhood experiences shows up very differently from single-incident trauma — and it requires a different clinical lens. Clients may present with emotional dysregulation, identity disruptions, relational instability, and physical health issues without a clear “big T” trauma event. Understanding how cumulative childhood adversity shapes brain development, the nervous system, and relational patterns across the lifespan is essential for effective treatment.
This 6-hour training provides a comprehensive framework for assessing and treating complex trauma rooted in ACEs. Explore the original ACE Study, including the ten core categories, while expanding your awareness of additional forms of adversity that research has since identified. Learn how to assess for ACEs, attachment patterns, dissociation, and nervous system sensitivity in an ongoing and responsive way. Recognize the key markers of complex trauma and translate these patterns into clear, compassionate language for your clients. Most importantly, develop the ability to let assessment and client response guide your treatment decisions — allowing you to tailor your approach in real time and support meaningful, trauma-informed healing.

Scope and Limitations Disclosure
This 6-hour continuing education training provides licensed mental health professionals with a comprehensive framework for assessing and treating complex trauma rooted in adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including the neuroscience of developmental trauma, attachment patterns, dissociation, nervous system sensitivity, and trauma-informed treatment planning. The course addresses clinical recognition, ongoing assessment strategies, and client-directed treatment decision-making. This training is educational in nature and does not substitute for clinical supervision, personal therapy, or specialty training when working with complex, high-risk, or diagnostically complex presentations. Participants are responsible for applying all course content within their individual scope of practice, licensure requirements, and applicable ethical standards. Completion of this training results in a certificate of completion issued by the CE provider and does not confer an independent credential or clinical designation.
