Overview:
Talk therapy has limits. Clients can understand their trauma, talk about it for years, and still feel stuck — still anxious, still shut down, still triggered. That’s because trauma doesn’t just live in the mind. It lives in the body. And you can’t think your way out of what the body hasn’t processed.
This 6-hour Clinical Summit gives you the somatic interventions to reach what words can’t. Learn how trauma disrupts the nervous system, why clients get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze, and how to use body-based tools to restore regulation and healing. Through Polyvagal Theory, the three-brain model, and practical somatic techniques — pendulation, titration, grounding, breathwork — you’ll gain a complete framework for integrating body-based healing into your existing modality.
Designed for psychotherapists, counselors, social workers, and body-centered practitioners who want to help trauma clients who aren’t responding to traditional talk therapy.
Objectives:
Explain how trauma disrupts adaptive somatic processing and describe its neurophysiological correlates.
Apply the three-brain model (head, heart, gut) and Polyvagal Theory to support regulation and connection.
Demonstrate core somatic techniques, including pendulation, titration, sequencing, and resourcing.
Facilitate interoceptive and proprioceptive awareness to deepen therapeutic outcomes.
Integrate somatic interventions safely into various treatment modalities (IFS, EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness).
Identify and prevent signs of re-traumatization by maintaining clients within the window of presence.
Cultivate therapist self-awareness, somatic resonance, and co-regulatory presence as clinical tools.
Develop individualized somatic treatment plans aligned with client needs and nervous system states.
Scope and Limitations Disclosure
This training provides licensed mental health professionals with a contemporary clinical framework for recognizing somatic dysregulation and integrating body-based interventions when working with trauma clients whose nervous systems have not responded to talk-based protocols — including the role of Polyvagal Theory and the three-brain model in nervous system regulation, somatic recognition signals for freeze, dissociation and dorsal vagal shutdown, pendulation, titration and grounding sequences for in-session use, integration of somatic interventions into IFS, EMDR, CBT and mindfulness-based modalities, prevention of re-traumatization through window of presence tracking, and individualized somatic treatment planning. Content should be applied within the scope of each clinician’s license and professional training. This training does not offer certification and is not a substitute for clinical supervision, diagnostic evaluation, or specialized treatment by a clinician credentialed in Somatic Experiencing or related body-based modalities. Participants are encouraged to apply content within their individual scope of practice and in accordance with applicable professional and ethical guidelines.
