Overview:
This interactive webinar will focus on two addictives (BFRBs) body-focused repetitive behaviors; one being Excoriation Disorder (compulsive skin-picking) and the other Trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder). This course will examine the difficulties related to treating these two BFRBs as they have high relapse rates, rising prevalence, and generate significant distress for those struggling to alleviate the need to reduce or eliminate the repetitive behaviors. This course will examine each disorder’s diagnostic criteria, explore coexisting mental health disorders, and identify the most updated treatment options and considerations.
Objectives:
- Provide the diagnostic criteria for both Excoriation and Trichotillomania Disorders.
- Discuss how both BFRBs have evolved in the  DSM prior to and after 2013.
- Describe and identify some of the key identifying behaviors of each disorder and how not to miss them as a provider.
- Suggest treatment options and explore the modern recovery tools useful in practice.
- Identify the barriers of treatment that exist and discuss how the rates of relapse.
- Provide perspective from a client/patient’s perspective in regards to the level of distress and impairment that each disorder generates and maintains.

Jennifer Burgin, LCSW, LCAS
Jennifer Burgin, LCSW, LCAS, CEDS, CIEC, is a highly trained and specialized clinician with a passion for helping individuals struggling with eating disorders and addiction. She holds multiple certifications and licensures in her field, including being a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Jennifer's commitment to the field of social work began at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she completed honors work in eating disorder research as part of her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She then earned her Master's in Social Work degree and a graduate certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. With over a decade of experience in the field, Jennifer has worked in various treatment centers and developed her own specialized private practice in 2017. She also provides telehealth services and holds licenses in 10 states to ensure that individuals in rural areas have access to care.
