General Overview
This course is intended to assist those seeking to obtain certification in mental health counseling to have the opportunity to gain awareness through study areas for the National Counselor Examination (NCE). Numerous areas of study and practice test questions will be explored by Corey Pitts, LCMHC, during this 8-hour course.
Course Objectives
General Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify areas of competency required to obtain a passing score on the NCE
- Strategies to approach test questions rationally
- Verbalize and acknowledge understanding of core competencies required for a licensed mental health counselor/therapist
- Utilizing course materials in preparation for the examination

Session One (November 10, 2024 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST)

Course Description:
During session one, we will discuss the development of the NCE, its purpose and content, as well as how the knowledge base of domains can further prepare you for real-world clinical practice as a future mental health clinician.
Session Objectives:
- Introduction to the NCE
- History of NCE development
- Purpose and content of the NCE
- Focuses and target populations for the NCE
- Minimally qualified candidacy
- Overview of all of the domain areas of the NCE
- Exam format
- Scoring
Session Two (November 12, 2024 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST)

Course Description:
During session two, we will discuss a handful of domains relevant to the NCE. These domains will be introduced and discussed via test example questions, rationales, as well as discussion surrounding the review of these domain areas

- Introduction to Human Growth and Development
- Introduction to Social and Cultural Diversity
- Intro to Counseling and Helping Relationships
- Intro to Group Counseling & Group Work
Session Three (November 14, 2024 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST)

Course Description:
During session three, we will discuss and introduce more domains relevant to the NCE. These domains will be introduced and discussed via test example questions, rationales, as well as discussion surrounding the review of these domain areas.

- Introduction to Assessment & Testing
- Introduction to Research & Program Evaluation
- Introduction to Professional Orientation & Ethical Practice
Session Four (November 16, 2024 | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST)

Course Description:
During session four, we will finalize our discussion points by reviewing the relevant course content while also introducing some final key areas of review. We will also ensure important topics for test readiness are reviewed and discussed to ensure your preparedness for the NCE.
Session Objectives:
- Introduction to counseling families, diagnosis, neuro-counseling, and advanced concepts
- Final overview of course contents, including discussion of relevant points in the course
objectives, while also reviewing test etiquette

Corey Pitts, LCMHC, LCAS
"Corey Pitts, a mental health therapist and certified clinical supervisor working in private practice in Charlotte, NC. He is also an Adjunct Instructor with the Division of Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at the UNC School of Medicine. Corey has been a therapist for 9 years. He specializes in the treatment and management of co-occurring disorders such as trauma, anxiety/depression, substance use, as well as aspects of various mood and personality disorders. He uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, as well as Solution Therapy approaches. He has worked in a wide array of treatment settings including community outreach, Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder, as well as Intensive Outpatient within hospital settings."
National Approvals
eCare BHI, as the accredited and approved sponsor, maintains responsibility for all the programs and must abide by each board’s continuing education guidelines.

Social Workers — Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.
