Overview:

Psychedelics are one of the hottest topics in healthcare research right now, and are being sold as the next, revolutionary wave in psychiatric intervention. However, as important foundational research in psychedelic science takes place, a growing group of Americans have begun self-medicating through “microdosing,” and Colorado recently became to first state to authorize “healing centers” and legal “gifting” or psychedelics, allowing these centers to provide psychedelics and their own proprietary interventions without need for research or FDA approval on techniques or substances.

Join E-Care and Dr. Aaron Weiner for an exploration of the current state of psychedelic science, including data published in peer-reviewed journals, social trends surrounding psychedelics’ rapid rise, and the influence of venture capital and the psychedelic industry on public understanding and perception.

Objectives:

Identify at least 3 commonly used psychedelics, including their relative origins and properties.
Describe the general findings of 3 areas of current research in the application of psychedelics to behavioral health.
Discuss the intersection and influence of industry and venture capital on public perception of psychedelics, and how this perception differs from peer-reviewed articles

Dr. Aaron Weiner

Dr. Aaron Weiner is a board-certified psychologist, addiction specialist, and the Executive Vice President of the Prevention Research Institute. A leading voice on addiction, prevention, and drug policy, his expertise stems from years of integrating current research into systems-level interventions, educational programming, and clinical practice workflows. A past president of the Society of Addiction Psychology, Dr. Weiner serves as an addiction policy advisor for the American Psychological Association and sits on the Science Advisory Board for the Foundation for Drug Policy Solutions. His insights have been featured in Newsweek, USA Today, The Chicago Tribune, The Guardian, Psychology Today, and The New York Times.
