12:30 PM ET – 3:45 PM ET
Overview:
Some clients keep coming, keep saying things are a little better, and don’t seem to be changing. Some say a session went well when their scores say otherwise. Dr. Michael S. Jones sees cases like these in supervision every week, along with clinicians who dread raising a bad number with a client. In this Masterclass, Dr. Jones teaches a routine for catching them early: a short progress score each session and a one-question check on how the client feels about the therapy relationship.
Participants choose from seven well-known measures that are free or low cost, each with its license terms stated, and learn to introduce them to clients with a clear reason for using them. The training then covers reading scores session by session to see which clients are not on track, deciding what to do next, and noticing and repairing ruptures when the relationship check dips. Dr. Jones also names what the research on measurement-based care does and doesn’t support, and he states the limits as plainly as the strengths.
The three hours run live on Zoom, with case scenarios, a client introduction modeled aloud, and a case walked through from the point a client’s scores stop moving. Participants get four ready-to-use templates (a baseline intake sheet, a session tracking sheet with a one-item relationship check, a progress review, and a client introduction script) and a two-minute plan for tracking on paper or alongside the electronic health record (EHR) a practice already uses. Client data stays with the clinician, and only free instruments are handed out.
Designed for licensed mental health professionals who want to see which clients are on track, catch and repair ruptures, talk about scores with clients, and do it in about two minutes a session.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Select at least two free or low-cost standardized measures, including a brief alliance check, and introduce them to clients with a clear rationale.
- Interpret session-by-session score trends to identify clients who are not on track, and plan a clinical response that includes rupture repair when the alliance dips.
- Build a two-minute routine for using measurement-based care in an existing electronic health record (EHR) or paper workflow, using the provided templates.
