Overview:
When clients react instead of respond, it is rarely a lack of insight. More often, the nervous system has moved into protection. In these moments, clients may feel hijacked by triggers, old survival patterns, and emotional reactivity. Mindfulness practices create the essential pause—allowing clients to step out of automatic reactivity and into the Observer Self (or Wise Mind), where awareness, choice, and regulation become possible.
The Inner Counselor Process™ takes this even deeper by guiding clients into connection with the wiser, loving, and steadier part of themselves—the part that was never wounded. From this place, clients can begin to identify and embody the deeper needs that may not have been met in the past, allowing old trauma and protective patterns to naturally release. As clients reconnect with this inner knowing, they experience a greater sense of safety in their bodies, more ease in their emotions, and an increased capacity to respond to life with clarity, compassion, and personal power.
In this experiential, day-long workshop, therapists and counselors will learn practical, trauma- informed interventions drawn from both mindfulness and the Inner Counselor Processâ„¢. These approaches help clients step off the stress reactivity cycle and move toward greater emotional regulation, resilience, joy, love, and alignment with their deeper wisdom. Participants will leave with tools that not only support client transformation but also create sessions that feel lighter, more intuitive, and more effective.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

Describe the role of the nervous system in emotional reactivity, including how stress and trauma can activate protective survival responses in clients.

Identify at least three mindfulness-based techniques that help clients create a pause between trigger and reaction.

 Explain the concept of the Observer Self and Inner Counselor and their role in supporting emotional regulation and self-awareness.

Demonstrate how to guide clients in accessing inner resources, utilizing aspects of the Inner Counselor Processâ„¢, to support emotional regulation and self-trust.

 Apply trauma-informed interventions that help clients shift from reactive survival patterns toward intentional and regulated responses.

Integrate mindfulness and Inner Counselor Processâ„¢ strategies into clinical practice to support greater emotional regulation, resilience, and empowerment in clients.
Scope and Limitations Disclosure
This training provides licensed mental health professionals with a mindfulness-informed clinical framework for understanding and treating nervous system dysregulation and emotional reactivity in adult and clinical populations. It focuses on in-session intervention, nervous system regulation, and the clinical application of mindfulness-based approaches. Content should be applied within the scope of each clinician’s license and professional training. This training does not offer certification in mindfulness-informed practice and is not a substitute for clinical supervision. Participants are encouraged to apply content within their individual scope of practice and in accordance with applicable professional and ethical guidelines.

After a life-changing healing experience during a mindfulness practice that healed her panic disorder and PTSD naturally, Dr. Shannon South went on to train with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the creator of MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), Dr. Ron Seigal of Harvard, Dr. Deepak Chopras’ programs and many other mindfulness modalities. She realized there was more going on than traditional therapy and received her doctorate in spiritual psychology. As a therapist for over 20 years, she is an expert at helping others embody more abundance, joy and heal trauma naturally. She is the Founder of The Inner Counselor Certification Program (C-ICP) where she trains counselors, clinicians and healing professionals internationally on how to embody their higher Self and help their clients do the same using mindfulness and a powerful trauma-informed process called The Inner Counselor Process™.
